We hope you’re excited about another fantastic semester with Golden Key!! For those of you weren’t able to come out to our last monthly meeting, or for anyone who wants a reference, we’ve compiled this quick guide to accessing the Golden Key Scholarships available exclusively for Golden Key members!
In previous years, there have been significant leftover funds, due to lack of application. So, if you are interested in having someone else contribute to your education, just take the time to fill out the applications, and your odds of receiving those funds are dramatically increased.
Please note: the deadlines for most of the upcoming scholarships are MARCH 1, 2013.
First off: How to get there.
To browse general GK scholarships:
- Go to www.goldenkey.org
- Choose your country (USA)
- Choose “Scholarships & Awards” and then select “Listing”
This will show you the list of all available scholarships being offered, and their deadlines. You can browse the scholarships, and click the listing to find out more information about any you would like to consider.
Clicking the listing (in red) will give you more information, such as the amount being offered, application requirements, applicant criteria, the deadline, and the number of awards being issued.
Once you have found a scholarship you are interested in applying for, click the link marked “Click Here to Apply” within the Application Requirements
This will take you to a screen where you can create an account for managing your scholarship applications. If you already have an account, log in to view your open applications.
Once your account is created you can view open applications and complete them with the necessary information.
Once you’ve completed all the requirements for the application, you can save and submit it. The process is fairly simple and direct, but if you do have questions or concerns, there are ways to find help.
- One helpful source can be found by selecting the “How To Apply” tab under “Scholarships & Awards” for a page with FAQs which can help answer general scholarship questions
- At the bottom of the FAQ page (under “How to Apply”) there is information for contacting directly the administrators of the website we use for scholarships:
For additional information regarding the scholarship program, please contact ISTS by email at info@applyists.com. When emailing please include the name of the scholarship program or sponsor.
For questions regarding scholarships and awards that do not require an online application through ISTS, please contact awards@goldenkey.org.
- If you are unable to get help from these sources, or have questions about accessing any of the sources covered in this guide, you can also email us at gkbyuchapter@gmail.com.
Tips for a (Mostly) Stress-Free Application
When you apply:
- Have your Golden Key Membership ID on hand
- Have a copy of your transcript saved in PDF form (unofficial is generally accepted, but be sure to read the requirements carefully)
- Know your Cumulative and Major GPA
- Have a Resume or Curriculum Vitae which includes education, work experience, extra-curriculars/special skills, honors or awards, and service participation.
Before you apply:
- Make connections with Professors, Supervisors, or others whom you could ask to give you a recommendation
- Consider what life/educational goals you have, why you are seeking scholarship funds, why you would be a worthwhile recipient to invest in, what challenges you have overcome and how you have learned from them, and how you might use the funds to improve the lives of others in the future. Many scholarships will ask for an essay or personal statement, and if you have pondered these things already, you are likely to be able to give a better response than if you were just to answer offhand.
- Visit the scholarship page as early as possible, and decide which, if any, scholarships you would like to pursue. Getting an early start will give you plenty of time to obtain required recommendations, and put together any thoughts necessary for essays or other written submissions.
